I will not edit a manuscript that doesn't have at least basic paragraph formatting, separated dialogue sequences, and either white space between paragraphs or indented paragraphs so I can tell one paragraph from another.
Turnaround Time Most of the time, I'm working on several manuscripts at once, and I require a minimum of 7 to 10 business days to complete a manuscript if my queue is particularly full. Please ask for my current turnaround estimate prior to sending a manuscript. Please do not schedule a preorder deadline based on my timeline in case it takes longer for me to edit your manuscript. I will keep you updated on my progress if I think it'll take longer than projected. Please understand that my queue normally stands between 6-12 books at any given time, sometimes more, depending on the time of year.
It's not that it takes this long to edit a manuscript. It takes this long to wade my way through all the other manuscripts ahead of yours. I usually try to edit manuscripts in a "first in, first out" order, with a few exceptions. I may finish sooner, and that is a good surprise for an author, but I'd rather be early than late. Manuscripts over 100k words, rough manuscripts, or English as a second language manuscripts may take longer.
One-Pass Edits Due to time constraints and a heavy workload, I no longer offer an option for two passes of edits. I'm not perfect, but I am pretty accurate, as my many returning clients can confirm. All of my testimonials are the result of one pass.
Back-Catalog Book Policy If I have a back-catalog book and a new, never-published book in my queue, I nearly always give preferential treatment to the more urgent unpublished book. I normally complete them in the order I receive them, but the wait on a previously published book will be longer (several weeks in cases where my queue is full).
