Are you searching for a copy editor? I'd love to help you present your best work to your readers! I perform basic fiction copy editing services. I have a sharp eye! I adore Indie authors and self-publishers! I'm extremely detail-oriented and can easily spot grammatical errors. Some of my authors have been featured on the USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times Bestseller lists! I'm very proud to have edited hundreds of manuscripts thus far.
I'm a native English speaker from America and an extremely avid lifelong reader. My library is extensive and I am comfortable with most genres. I love fiction: Romance, Paranormal, Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Contemporary Romance, YA, NA, Adult Novels, Novellas, and Serials. Even if I dislike the subject of a book, I will still provide excellent results. Critiquing is not my job.
I can recognize an author's writing style! If your style is informal, I won't muck it up with "proper" English. I will fix glaring mistakes, but I won't change the tone of your writing. I adapt my editing to my authors' needs. I am Oxford comma friendly.
I recognize that, at times, certain forms of punctuation such as commas, em-dashes, ellipses, and semicolons can be subjective to the author and a point of disagreement between editors and various style guides. While I may insert punctuation to improve flow and readability or to break up overlong sentences, any edits I make can be disregarded at the author's discretion. Sometimes, there are no hard and fast rules. I consult multiple style guides for proper punctuation rules.
My goal as a copy editor is to spot mistakes and correct readability and flow issues. It is not my goal to perform content editing duties such as editing plot lines, developing characters, restructuring paragraphs, configuring layouts, or editing story arcs. As a fiction copyeditor, I do not fact check. I do not format manuscripts for publishing. I also can't turn a bad story into a good story.
However, I will: - correct spelling and word usage errors - correct syntax (word order) errors and typographical errors - correct grammar and punctuation errors - correct capitalization errors - correct number usage and number formatting errors - correct redundancy issues - correct comma splices, run-on sentences, and sentence structure issues - improve sentence structure and readability - check for missing or repetitive words - check for consistency in voice (first-person/third-person) and verb tense - verify subject-verb agreement - revise overlong sentences or paragraphs - correct dialogue sequence punctuation and dialogue tags - improve conciseness of wording for improved readability - check for regional English errors (British English spellings in American English manuscripts) - correct spacing issues between words and sentences
MS Word documents are preferred. I utilize the Track Changes function for my edits. I will provide an edited copy (titled Marked Copy) with all changes shown, so you are free to accept or reject changes on an individual basis. If desired, I'll also provide a clean, format-ready copy with all changes accepted (titled Clean Copy).
Your satisfaction is extremely important to me! I will work hard to ensure that you are completely satisfied. I may just chat your ear off. I'm very enthusiastic because I love what I do.
